About Oban and the Surrounding Area
Oban offers an abundance of restaurants, cafes and bars many with live music and ceilidh. Oban seafood restaurants must be visited. They are renowned for serving locally caught fresh lobster, langoustine, mussels and salmon. The family or sport enthusiast can enjoy excellent opportunities for diving, sailing, rambling, cycling and climbing within Oban and Lorn.
Oban is known as the Gateway to the Isles and is an ideal location for island hopping by ferry to explore Mull, Colonsay, Iona, Tiree, Coll and Kerrera provide an excellent island experience which can be done in a day.
Mull is the largest of the islands of Argyll and the island’s main town Tobermory, is famed for cheerful colours of its waterfront buildings as well as being the setting for the hit children’s TV show Balamory.
Once you have settled in you’re bound to wonder what treasures Oban and Argyll have to offer the visitor. The West Coast has wonderful places to visit; ancient castles and monuments; glorious gardens, visitor attractions; the magical islands of Mull, Iona and Staffa by ferry from Oban.

Things to do in Oban
1. Visit Oban Distillery in Oban
Nestling beneath the steep cliff that overlooks Oban, one of Scotland's oldest sources of single malt scotch whisky is but a stone's throw from the sea.
Take a tour of the senses at Oban Distillery! You will be taken around the distillery by one of the knowledgeable guides exploring each part of the whisky making process. The tour will finish with a sample of our Oban 14 year old single malt with some crystalised ginger – a taste sensation! To round off nicely you will be given a small memento to remind you of your visit to Oban Distillery.
Oban Distillery is situated on the West Coast of Scotland, and produces Oban 14 year old West Highland Malt whisky, one of the Classic Malts Selection. A warm welcome awaits with guided distillery tours running regularly throughout the year, an excellent exhibition and well stocked tasting bar and whisky gift shop.
2. Glencruitten Golf Club
Glencruitten Golf Club hosts a 18 hole course just minutes from the town centre. This golf club is wildlife rich parkland course with mature trees, plus a bar/restaurant and golf shop. Lessons also available
3. Oban Chocolate Company
The multi award winning Oban Chocolate Company is a must see for any chocolate lover, with beautiful views across Oban Bay. Step in and smell the relaxing aroma of chocolate as the chocolatiers work away in the factory.
Relax on the comfy leather sofas and indulge yourself with a rich hot chocolate topped with fresh cream and flavoured with caramel, cinnamon or even chilli or choose from the range of organic and fairly traded coffees. Enjoy an ice cream float, ice cream milkshake or towering sundae made with Mackies ice cream.
